This Christmas I participated in one of the most moving, volunteer experiences ever. I was part of the entertainment for a Christmas Dinner.

The event was amazing and I’m already planning a costume for next year.

Saturday I participated in Improv Everywhere’s Mp3 Experiment. Past experiments looked so awesome, that I when I found out about this one, there was no way I was missing it!

I didn’t get too many photos of the actual event, but took some blurry pics after. Hooray for light up dance parties!

If you haven’t heard, there is a whole movement of this yarn bombing.

It’s so cool!

It makes me want to knit more than boring scarves so I can join the movement!

Until then, I can always make a new batch of bunnies to leave my own random surprises.

We all decorated these gold foliage with sparkles and paper, but then I decided we should make a whole collage full of glitter and tissue paper.

So we did.

The result: glitter-rific awesomness!

There was a tiny glue spill, but it was perfect for impromptu tissue paper flowers! To make – just smash tissue paper scraps (people’s floor scraps are perfect) into balls on the paper – and voila!

We also made glitter designs. I had her follow my hand so she could understand the shapes that we were making.

This project was really fun for both of us and my student proud of her work!

I love my iphone and I write LOTS of notes. Everything from being angry that the train is taking forever, to-do lists, songs to download, and lastly the gooey feelings that I get when I am around a certain someone. I often look through my old notes to see if anything exciting has happened. And something exciting DID happen – I realized that it had been a year of knowing a certain someone and a year of random little notes to myself.

Dear certain someone ~ the last sentence of my most recent note is true. No matter what, I am happy to be back to “feeling” again, so much that I have to write them out immediately as I feel them. Thank you for that.

This weekend some friends and I flew some kites. It was wonderful.

At one point, we had three kites in the sky!

Watching the kites was a nice time for daydreaming…

Wouldn’t it be neat if kites could fly in purple skies?

And if colors were always this bright?

Sometimes the kites would crash, but we made some new friends that helped them take off.

And they’d be back in the sky… (the butterfly kite was given to us by an adorable little girl!)

And we’d be back to smiling.

A couple of kites felt like making homes in trees.

One clever guy thought he could use this stick to get it down.

Just for helping, we decided to give them a kite. I think it made their day.

We had one miracle kite that flew effortlessly the entire time. After awhile, the butterfly joined!

All in all, successful day for kite flying~two kites in trees, one given away, and a new one given to us.

I’ve always loved them, ever since a child. And once I started painting, they were my favorite thing to paint. In Iowa, I used to face paint at town festivals, and I was always known as the “butterfly girl.” When I got my guitar, the first song I wrote was about butterflies. Three chords. (G, C, D)

I even took one of my senior pictures with me laying down and butterflies were in my hair.
Yes, I was a little obsessed!

Well, this weekend I decided to bring back the butterflies. My friends moved into this awesome apartment with huge white walls and said I could do an installation on their wall. This will be an ongoing project and I plan on filling the wall with paper art (inspired by the local artist, Katie Sokoler)

Here’s the magic of the butterflies…

These butterflies started on the floor…

Since there was a nice open space, I decided to join them…

Arranging….

They made their way to my hair…

And my nose…

And told me to make a wish…

They even surrounded my friend Dani! (she was the only brave one to be part of my photo shoot!)

The butterflies slowly made their way up the wall…

They finally did.

Now my friends will be greeted with these every day!

Ta da!
