Sometimes my seven-year self gets the better of me and I just want to play.  So last week when the skies opened and the streets got crowded with puddles, I didn’t hide under an awning.

In fact before leaving Vintage Attic on Metropolitan I asked for an extra plastic bag. I turned my music up and threw the phone into the bag (I realize it’s probably not terribly safe to run around in rain with headphones, but I just wanted a fun soundtrack to my mischievousness.)

I left the store and skipped and danced and waved my arms around the whole way home. As the rain heavily poured onto my shoulders and the plastic bag with my phone (clutched tightly in my hand), I felt lighter and free.

At that point, I jumped – quite literally – into the puddles.

There’s something about the rain that is so, so refreshing.

NYC is constantly sprucing up the neighborhoods with flowers – tulips in the spring and hydrangeas in the summer. But they don’t stop there, in the winter you will not go down a street without seeing some purple and green cabbage.

This morning, I was distracted by big, fat rain drops on these pretty purple leaves…

Who knew cabbage be so pretty?

Even though I had a crabby morning, I’m glad I took these pretty photos!

…the storm left a sky of gray and blue…

…light sparkled on the buildings..

…and even in the puddles.

Last week was crazy.

It was like I had a rain cloud over me..

But something magical happened and a butterfly came to the rescue!

And brought friends…

They had a different idea for the rain drops…

Much better…

Hooray!

They reminded me to remember the love and serenity through the dark and annoying times!
