Snail mail art collab
Snail Mail Art Collab is a year-long project for 36 selected artists to create collaborative art. The idea is to have fun and create something but also be okay with the idea of impermanence since you have no idea how the original piece will be transformed and how it will look when it returns.
Project History~
I started this project in May 2020 as a unique way to connect with other humans. As you know, the world had been shut down for a couple of months, and we were all trying to figure out how to navigate (and many still are!).
The idea was to use art as a physical way to reach others. Even though we couldn’t meet in person, we received a small package or letter in the mail ~ and who doesn’t love a little snail mail?
A few artists signed up, and we all made art on a small piece of paper. From there, we mailed the piece to another artist in the group, added it to their artwork, and continued this for every artist. The only rule was that an element of the original artwork had to be left. The rotation took several months, but eventually, everyone got their original artwork back, completely transformed.
In 2023-2024, we will have three tracks of artists. Stay tuned for an art show and artists' highlights, experiences, and more. @snailmailartcollab
