Easter in Central Park

this coming year

May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art – write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself. - Neil Gaiman

**Just a little reminder for 28...along with finishing some of the things off of the list from 27.

The Sunday I finished Watership Down

The final chapters of a book are always ...(not sure what the word is)...but something. I reach a certain point where I realize I'm nearing the end and I try to read slower, but barely do because I'm so excited and read every chance I can - the train, the short walk from the elevator to my office, the crowded Pax in Times Square on a lunch break (it was there that I nearly jumped out of my chair wanting to tell everyone about what the rabbits endured - it was that good). But there's nothing better than finishing a good book. You turn the last page and you breathe in the last bits of the characters and their surroundings. You might even feel a bit sad or lonely because in a way, you're losing these characters. I was in a pizza place on Graham ave when this happened. Afterwards, I decided that the only thing to do was to paint. I think the spirit of the book really came through in the piece.p.s. Thanks Chris for taking my lovely photos!

ba de ti da!

Hello March,I noticed the crocuses starting to come up. Little yellow buds perking their little heads up out of a planter.I heard that it's going to be nearly 68 tomorrow! Snow on Halloween, summer weather in March - no biggie. riiiight.Wednesday nights have been spent singing Brahms in prepration for the concert. We'll visit with a college roommate who once covered the entire apartment in yarn, making it a maze to walk through as she sat contently reading a magazine. The annual Oklahoma trip will be postponed, due to many weddings this summer. (yeah love!)We'll spring forward. The longer days are coming. The kitty is still cute and we love music.

lifeline

i am my own lifelinedarkness finds it's way into my heart. into my mind. into my words.i say things without thinking.i think things without doing."what's the point?" that harsh voice asks."it's all already been done. you're not good enough anyway." it teases."...but you love it and it makes you happy..." a tiny voice struggles to speaki am my own problem, but i am my own lifeline.maybe this realization is part of "the point."the "action step" for my list-loving mind is self-love.

dear february

Hello February,You've been unseasonably warm, but I won't complain, it's nice to wear dresses year-round. I enjoyed the few snowflakes we had and expect we'll have more according to Punxsutawney Phil. You gave me a cold (boo), but I stayed in bed for two days watching Downton Abbey (so, so good).I had Butter Lane in good company and my loud laugh carried through a silent film.My schedule finally aligned with my fellow list lover and we drank chai tea and laughed about broken charger cords.<3

happening

There are times when I wish I could be a kid again. To have a seemingly simpler life. All of the excitement and disappointment over the smallest things. But I'm sure when I was that age, I did nothing but wish away my youth and there are times that I do that now (27 years is not that long...).But life is hard! It's hard to think about dreams for the future and lessons from the past, when you're trying to stay 'present' and get through the day-to-day of life.As one wise lady said, "Life just sort of happens."very true.I hope some day I can look back on this blog, random scribblings and notes and realize that I knew more than I thought. That I was more okay than I thought. That as life happened...I lived it the best I could.** love fiercly. love freely.remember compassion.

Unicorns, flowers, and pretty things

Things have been a little quiet on this corner of my world, but I've been busy making unicorns, eating cupcakes, seeing films (you must see The Artist and Chinatown is  s u c h  a great classic), painting, getting lost in pretty things, and hand-washing tie dye shirts for some eager (and deserving) children in my Saturday Art Explorers class.2012... So far, so good.20120208-024532.jpg20120208-024554.jpg20120208-024620.jpg20120208-024546.jpg20120208-024903.jpg20120208-024912.jpg20120208-024643.jpg20120208-024606.jpg
