I am no stranger to impermanence and all of the feelings that "change" brings about, but there was something about 2018 that made me embrace the inevitability of this in a way that I never have before. The most challenging moments, ended up being the most beautiful teachings.

In September I started a letter to a friend that I didn't finish, I was writing it to calm my nerves while I was at the passport/immigration office getting my U.S. Citizenship! I recently opened to it and found the following...

But sometimes life can be so exhausting it's hard to pause and find the gentle way through, but maybe it's about surrendering to those hard moments, letting them wash over us and sinking into them. Somehow there we can find the gentle current that will pull us through. 

I think that's exactly what 2018 was about. Surrendering. Letting go. Trying to embody impermanence.

Every time I did this, instead of resisting the hard stuff, I would soften more. I could feel into the magic that is our interconnectedness. The love that really does exist and my heart would swell with gratitude. I became grateful for change itself.

Gratitude for the friend that is time passing. This made me more grateful for joyous moments, while they were happening. I would breathe a little deeper, feel a little more.

The learning is lifelong, but in this very moment, I am so grateful for my experience in this form. For growth, for the garden of friends, for silly songs, furry creatures, and all the beings. For all of the connections seen and unseen.

It has been quite the year. I haven't used this space for writing that much because I've spent more time handwriting in my journal (which was part of a manifesto that still guides me) and have been keeping more things to myself. Don't get me wrong, I still wear my heart on my sleeve (clearly - haha) and haven't lost my "art" of creating "awkward moments". In fact, the move to Troy was hard and all of my old "stuff" returned - lots of looping around and around again in self-doubt. Before moving, I had so. much. fear. of somehow returning to a version of myself that wouldn't be liked or that I would be too something. But I see now that even that version of me, the one that reaches and tries too hard and worries too much and seems overly eager, deserves love because we *all* have moments like this. It's being a human and it can be difficult to navigate the ocean of feelings, but I believe it's in this space (fear and feelings) that we are truly connected!

The fear I had leading up to it (the move) ended up being worse than the experience because Troy has been nothing short of wonderful. We've been welcomed into an amazing community of people (and animals!), I've poured my heart into my art and music, developed my own affinity for microbes, and Brendan's building is oh-so-close!

Despite the short-sighted vision (of some) for the future of our planet and all beings and all the actions against it, I am still full of gratitude, hope, and possibility for the New Year. Here's to finding moments of connection and sharing kindness to everyone, especially those that we don't fully understand. Let our hearts be bridges because our lights shine brighter together.

While there are many things OUT of my control, I am grateful for the ability to make silly greetings like this one and hope that they can bring some cheer.

Brendan's favorite holiday song turned into a holiday card!

Let's be real. 2016 had some real shit moments. Don't get me wrong, it had many beautiful and amazing moments too - and these are what I hold on to. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't impacted by events of late (I realize that for some, it may have been a positive year, but you all know my leanings).

What helps: art, friends, laughter, wine, music, cat cuddles, and love. So much love.

With that, I'm sending *you* all lots of love - let it spark your own inner light and let that shine outward and ultimately, reflect back to you. I truly believe that the more we can all do this, the better and brighter this world will be. If nothing else, it would at least be a little kinder.

// this month seemed long, albeit short. i kept referring to it as "forgotten february" because most days were spent watching downton or sleeping thanks to a nagging (and still lingering) cough. but february was not forgotten. many bits were saved on the camera. in no particular order (and not matching the photos) i can say that it was a month of snow. and rain. and then snow (and skiing!) there was a midnight walk through prospect park which included running through a very dark (as in pitch black) tunnel {i screamed}. the cats were equal parts annoying and cute ... caesar has now taken to only drinking out of the faucet and waking to falling objects by a hungry cat knocking them off the mantle definitely tested some patience. pancakes were made the french way and sausage was made by hand. photos of both of these food events to comehere. oh! and there was a delicious delivery from portland. cookies with a message that made me smile. thank YOU dear friend, i also love y-o-u. not pictured: late nights at the office enjoying "mckinsey's" 

// fine. i admit it. i am, always was, and probably always will be a cat lady. but they are too cute not to be!

To furminate means to use this special brush on the kitties that takes out a lot of their hair. (I wonder if they new it would become a new verb for some). This brush is amazing - you can practically make another cat from the hair it pulls out!Kidding!Our little Sweetums actually loves to be furminated. Sometimes I throw the hair out the window because it seems like it could make a nice warm nest for little birdies (although, maybe not considering it's  c-a-t  fur).In any case, this weekend I took it to a new level of convenience...Furminating on the fire escape. Hayden took these as I told him he had to shut the window so the hair wouldn't blow in the house.Happy kitty, happy house :)

A day at the Krull-tail apartment is fun.You might get attacked with baby powder by a curious roommate - just wondering what it would look like if you were gray......and it will definitely be a powdery mess.A kitty will surely want to say hello......only so she can be lifted into the air to do some acrobatics.while other kitties will want to sleep on hard surfaces.And if you're lucky, you might stumble upon a package like this on your way home...

Last week I took a day off to work on some art and the kitties decided to help. Many times they hid the scissors with their furry tails making me feel as if I lost my mind because "dammit! I just had them!"Caesar (the black kitty) loves sitting on lumps. He never likes to sit on soft things, he prefers piles of books; shoes or anything that looks like it would be uncomfortable. His sister just likes to get into everything and runs around like a mini tornado. Aren't they adorable?The new project is something in the works, more to come.oh and he also likes to wear shoes. ;)    

p.s. RIP beautiful tree from my block (not pictured above). I will miss smelling the flowers and reaching up to feel your pretty leaves. p.p.s. I admit it, I was one of those people walking around the park after the storm...not the smartest idea in the world, but I couldn't stay cooped up any longer! p.p.p.s. Times Square now has Crumbs ... sweeeeet! (although, Butter Lane cupcakes are still the best)  

After going to the beach last week with long strip of fabric, I decided to sew it together to make an actual beach sheet ~ or at least something that was square!Hayden decided it would be fun to have a photo shoot with the scraps.Perhaps I will wear this to the beach this weekend!We even got the kitty involved. :)Have a great weekend!

After a day at the farmer's market and visiting queen Lavi cat, I came home to work on a painting and relax with the fluffs. And now I must sleep for my early beach day with Joy!Xo

or cat.. or buddy.. or irving... his name changes by the day because we can't figure out the best name for him, but sneakers is the name that the shelter named him.this little fur ball is the newest addition to the list of the cats of my life and my awesome new apartment in brooklyn. i moved out of my shoebox apartment earlier this year and now have an amazingly HUGE room in williamsburg which allows me to do wonderful things like paint, play piano, and dance around.it's lovely.isn't he darling?he loves his cousin and sister cats:
